Observational signatures of stellar explosions driven by relativistic jets

چکیده

ABSTRACT The role of relativistic jets in unbinding the stellar envelope during a supernova (SN) associated with gamma-ray burst (GRB) is unclear. To study that, we explore observational signatures explosions that are driven by jets. We focus on final velocity distribution outflow such and compare its imprints to SN/GRB data. find jet-driven produce an flat energy per logarithmic scale proper velocity. seems be universal as it independent jet progenitor properties explored. range for typical GRB parameters γβ ≈ 0.03–3, where γ Lorentz factor β dimensionless A seen also collimated choked highest decreases depth at which choked. Comparison observations SN/GRBs strongly disfavors sole explosion source these events. Instead, collapsing star deposit into two channels – quasi-spherical (or wide angle) channel narrowly one. former carries most responsible SN sub-relativistic ejecta while latter 0.01–0.1 total GRB. Intriguingly, same channels, similar ratio, were binary neutron merger GW170817, suggesting engines work both phenomena.

Stellar Explosions by Magnetic Towers

We propose a magnetic mechanism for the collimated explosion of massive stars relevant for long-duration gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), X-ray Flashes (XRFs) and asymmetric core collapse supernovae. In particular, we apply Lynden-Bell’s magnetic tower scenario to the interior of a massive rotating star after the core has collapsed to form a collapsar with a black hole accretion disk or a millisecond m...

Relativistic Acceleration of Magnetically Driven Jets

We present an analytical model for describing highly relativistic acceleration of magnetically driven jets, within the framework of ideal MHD for cold, stationary and axisymmetric outflows. Our novel procedure is to treat the wind equation as an algebraic relation between the relativistic Alfvén Mach-number and the poloidal electric to toroidal magnetic field amplitudes ratio ξ. This allows us ...

Relativistic Stellar Models with Quadratic Equation of State

In this paper, we have obtained and presented new relativistic stellar configurations considering an anisotropic fluid distribution with a charge distribution and a gravitational potential Z(x) that depends on an adjustable parameter. The quadratic equation of state based on Feroze and Siddiqui viewpoint is used for the matter distribution. The new solutions can be written in terms of elementar...

Relativistic stellar jets: dynamics and non-thermal radiation

Relativistic stellar jets, produced in binary systems called microquasars, propagate through media with different spatial scales releasing their energy in the form of work and radiation from radio to gamma rays. There are several medium-interaction scenarios that these jets can face. In particular, in relativistic stellar jets the presence of a star is an unavoidable element whose importance de...

Observational Effects of Anomalous Boundary Layers in Relativistic Jets

Recent theoretical work has pointed out that the transition layer between a jet an the medium surrounding it may be more complex than previously thought. Under physically realizable conditions, the transverse profile of the Lorentz factor in the boundary layer can be non-monotonic, displaying the absolute maximum where the flow is faster than at the jet spine, followed by an steep fall off. Lik...
